Not to us but to your name be the glory. Jos. 1:27
Pure religion & undefiled before God & the Father is this, to visit the fatherless & widows in their affliction & to keep himself unspotted from the world. Dorcas goodwill ministry is a ministry to the orphans, widows & the general poor in society. It started in 2004 February, initially a conviction in the heart of one Lydiah Were Mwaura who shared with others who felt the same then they teamed up to initiate the ministry. We have written a constitution that governs the affairs of this ministry. We are a group of Christians whom God has moved to take care of the needs of the orphans especially in educating them. Since 2004 when we started, we have been able to support, sometimes with the help of the relatives, seven orphans, among them, Lucy Mogoi, Denis Mogoi, learning in kisii, and Edwin Masaka at Nakuru high school all who sat for their fourth form exam last year 2006.Maryanne Njambi, a form four in St. Francis Secondary School in Solai, Monicah Wanjiku form four Langalanga secondary school, Sandra kandie in Kapkenda girls High School in Chepkorio Keiyo in form two and Paul Kimemia in Jomo Kenyatta Secondary School in Subukia Form 1.
The first two lost their mother but their father who is alive was too busy with his second wife that he could not take care of their educational needs. Edwin Masaka is a total orphan who lost both parents and his relatives took no responsibility over his education. He is one among his siblings. They are a total of four children trying to survive. We took up his case in 2006 January where he had arrears of Ksh. 89,000 which we are still trying to clear to date. We have so far paid Ksh 45,500 and still have a balance of Ksh 43,500 which have to be paid before he can be given his result slip from the school to be able to move on to his next stage
Maryanne Njambi is a total orphan who lost both her parents to the HIV & AIDS Scarge. We took up her case in 2005 as a form two in the same School. So far we are remaining with the school fees balance for this year only which is a total of Ksh. 17,547
Monicah Wanjiku in Langalanga was raised by a single mother who is too poor to take Monicah to School.Monicah had stayed at home two years before her case reached us. We took her back to school form two in 2005. We have paid her fees and so far we only have the balance for second term and third this year which amounts to Ksh 9740.
Sandra Kandie in Kapkenda Girls School lost her Father. The mother who lives with her and her siblings in Kipkabus, Uasin-gishu is too poor to take care of Sandra’s education needs. She sat for her KCPE three times, passing every time but had no one to pay for her secondary school education. We learnt about her case last year 2006 early when we took up her case. We have so far been able to pay her form one fees, we have only so far paid her form two fees part payment of Ksh 2000 and have a balance of Ksh 21,100.
Kimemia; we were only able to buy for him necessities to facilitate his enrollment. We are yet to pay his school fees. We have straggled to get for him some bursary money but in vain both in Nakuru constituency and Subukia (CDF). His father passed away and the mother is too sick with HIV that even placing food on her table is a struggle.
We as Dorcas members are doing our best to see to it that these children get at least basic education. Although we are not very able but we are believing God to come through for us to enable us to meet the needs of this children. The source of income we use on these children is both from our personal contributions and from a project we started in 2004 of a second hard items shop we call Dorcas goodwill Ministry center located in Koinange estate of Nakuru town.
The items we sell at the shop are contributed by well wishers. This includes any item that can be useful to anyone, this ranges from cloths, shoes, utensils, cabinets, furniture’s etc. You are welcome to visit our shop and see what we are doing. We have two employees whom we got from among the needy within society around this area. We are glad we were able to provide employment for them though their salary is minimal. We look forward to paying them better when we get more income.
With the same income we have been able to add value to small scale businesses owned by some five widows. We have not advanced very much in this area due to lack of funds. At time we help pay for their house rent which is a challenge to some owing to their little income as compared to their dependants . To some, we supported them with basic necessities which they could not afford e.g. blankets, sheets, buckets, utensils etc. We too have a vision of building our own school when funds will be available because we find it challenging to pay fees for these orphans in scattered schools and even visit them. We would have liked to bring them in one place and be able to take care of their other needs e.g. food, clothing shelter etc. In such a setup we can easily monitor their physical, social and spiritual wellbeing
On this account we have already done our research of all we would need to put up a school and equip it. All these is contained in our project proposal incase you would like to look at it, let us know
